I was closing my eyes to try to visualize the scene I'm working on and a figure much cooler than this one came running through my thoughts. I tried to capture it as a drawing but it was too evasive, and this is what I'm left with.

Another Yearbook on it's way

In this digital age, we take thousands of pictures a year - most of them are horrible, but what do we do with them? For the past two years my wife and I put them all together in a "Yearbook" and publish it through Blurb . It's a great way to actually use these pictures that we so generously shoot.

PJG claims Producer's Choice and Viewer's Choice Awards

Not only did I not expect this, I didn't do anything by way of telling people about the competition to get the votes! To my great luck and support, there was a mass email sent out at work for me about this and I heard of another one going out on BYU's campus telling people to go to the Nicktoons website and vote for the film. And as a result, we won the Viewers Choice. A month ago, Ben, the Producer, and I went to the Nickelodeon Studios for a party. We knew we had won the Producer's Choice Award. But the viewers choice was still up in the air. So thank you wonderful people who took the time to check out the film and who voted for it. Those of you who voted for something else, you should see it again .

Guy a-walkin'

I am SO lucky. I am also very grateful. Sony rocks and I feel overwhelmed by how this is all coming together. Here at the studio, Marcelo Vignali gets some people together and heads over to a local Greek place where they sit down and draw the people around them. I tagged along this time and plan on making it routine. At the end of the sketching session, the group singles out someone just walking by and they all memorize him/her to the best of their ability and then go back to their respective desks to then put it on paper. Then they'll be posted on the Sketchclub blog. Great exercise in memory retention and quick observation. I think this poor guy noticed us all studying him as he walked down the street. Happy Hallowe'en

Sony Story Artist!!!!

I feel like the luckiest person in the world! Just last Monday I was offered a job with Sony Pictures Animation as a Story Artist! Here's a quick run down of how it happened: Monday - Sept 8th Blue Sky Studios got my Layout demo reel Tuesday - Sept 9th I got a call from Blue Sky and a phone interview with the Layout people Thursday - Sept 11th Blue Sky called with an offer! And it was a really good one! I was very pleased with it. It wasn't exactly what I wanted, but it was in the industry and I would have been foolish to not go after it. They let me know they were on a pretty tight schedule and needed to get an answer to them by Monday the 15th. I sent out a bunch of emails - one of which was to an recruiter at Sony Pictures Animation with whom I had been in contact. I asked if she knew of anything going on in Sony with Story positions. She emailed me back quickly and the ball was rolling. Friday - Sept 12th I got a call from this recruiter saying that Sony was...

Here we go again

It's bound to happen one of these times, right? I keep getting closer. The first time I applied, I was in college, didn't have much to show and they were very polite, but i'm sure they laughed when I left the room. The second time I applied was for the After Effects position. Though I was recommended by the person they were going to hire, someone else was hired before I even got my portfolio in. With the Layout Artist, Pixar actually called me up and flew me out for an interview. That was amazing. Thought they didn't offer me a job, I was that much closer. Now, I'm gearing up for round four ! Wish me luck.
