Folding Illustration

Yeah, there's some resemblance to those old Mad Magazine gimmicks, but that's only because I was influenced by them as I was designing this illustration.  I think the idea stands on it's own.

I don't love the colors, but I love the concept.  In my perfect world, this would run in the February edition of the Friend or New Era magazines for my church.  February because it could serve as a reminder for all the hearts out there (lonely or not) about who we really should belong to.  We should give our hearts to our Lord and Savior.  We can show that love for Him in our service to others.  And I love how that is reflected in the words of the message.

I pitched this idea to the people at the Friend and they liked it, but it wasn't picked up because of it's dependence on English (or any language).  The publication is global and is translated into over 100 languages and half of the appeal is the written word.  That would have to be rethought out in each language.  Too much work for what it's worth.  But I stand by it.  It's a good idea and I'd love to see it published somehow, somewhere.  Maybe I'll rework the colors and send it to other publications.

Creating the Anhedonia Logo

This is the animated logo at the end of the new television show, Mr. Sunshine. Think "Sit, Ubu. Sit." or "Bad Robot!!" You can see it better quality at http://vimeo.com/20228001 A few months ago I got a call from my friend Matt Davis asking if I would maybe, possibly be somewhat interested in considering working on a logo like that for Matthew Perry. I jumped at the chance. The company is called Anhedonia Productions, and you're probably wondering what in the world "Anhedonia" means. It's the inability to experience pleasurable emotions from normally pleasurable life events. A pretty crappy situation, but comedy goldmine. I worked with Andy Erekson and Marcelo Vignali (and his daughter) to come up with a list of 50 ideas of what this logo could be within the theme that Perry had already set up. I boarded out 7 of those ideas and created 3 animated beta tests. Here are some of my favorites... For exploration: Face on Jumbotron Rodeo Christmas tre...
